Fair Entries for Fine Arts & Literary Arts

GENERAL RULES & GUIDELINES FOR ENTRIES:

1. All of the following Rules & Guidelines
must be followed for successful submission.
2. An exhibitor may enter a total of 4 unique
items. (see Rule #10) The same item may not be
duplicated in more than one department.
3. Claim tickets will be given when the items are
entered and must be presented to claim money
and entries. The owner of the item is the only
one who can collect money. Parents will be
allowed to pick up money for the child.
4. All paintings and photos must be securely
framed with screw eyes and wire for hanging.
All entries, therefore, must be completely dry,
framed, and hangable. Entries such as those to
be hung with string, tape, and/or glue will NOT
be accepted.
5. Work must have been completed within the last
three (3) years and not previously entered in
the Washington County Fair. Entrants must
have at least six (6) months of residency in the
county.
6. All articles must be the work of the exhibitor.
Any irregularity in the entry, or fraud by
misrepresentation or otherwise detected
before or after the awards are made, shall
cause the forfeiture of the money, which will be
withheld by the fair board.
7. 4-H members cannot enter articles in both
Home and Fine Arts Division and 4-H, as 4-H
is judged differently.
8. Entries must be the original work of the artist.
Copies and class-taught work can be on display
only.

9. None of the following will be allowed in the
Washington County Fair: nudity, satanism,
cult/gang-related items, or killing.
10. Artists may enter TWO (2) entries in each class(i.e.
2 Fine Arts Entries & 2 Literary Arts Entries)
11. Unless otherwise provided, articles can be
entered ONLY by the owner or producer. Any
attempt to perpetrate fraud by
misrepresentation will bar the piece from
competing for any money. Department
supervisors may remove from the grounds any
exhibit that is falsely entered or which may be
deemed unsuitable, objectionable, or difficult
to display.
12. Entries must be picked up on Monday, April 21
between 9:00AM and 5:00PM in the Harmony
Building. Items left unclaimed will be taken to
the Extension Office to be picked up by April 30.
13. Money may be redeemed at the money bank at
the fair during the designated hours. Money
not redeemed by Monday, April 21, at 5:00PM
may be redeemed at the Washington County
Treasurer’s Office at 111 East Tabernacle, St.
George. All money must be redeemed by May
30, 2025 or the money will be forfeited.
Absolutely no entry may be reclaimed until
Monday, April 21, from 9:00AM to 5:00PM to
avoid disrupting the spirit of the fair.

DEADLINE FOR LITERARY ART SUBMISSIONS IS MARCH 28, 2026 BY 4 P.M.

All entries must meet the following requirements to be eligible for cash/display:
• Appropriate taste for family and county fair (language, violence, sexuality)
• Must be your own work
• No resubmissions from previous years
• One entry for each class (Poetry; Prose)
• Length: <1,000 words • Spacing: Single • Font: Arial (12 pt) Categories You may enter one in each class: • Poetry • Prose This year’s theme is America: 250 Years

Entrants may write about the annual theme or
choose their own topic.
Entries will be judged in the following divisions:
(age as of March 28, 2026)

• Adolescent:13-19
• Adult (20+)
o Amateur
o Pro (history of published work)

Cash Awards
All entries will receive one of the
following:
• Blue Ribbon: $6
• Red Ribbon: $4
• White Ribbon: $2
Entries may also receive one of the following:
• Sweepstakes: $20
• Reserve Sweepstakes: $15
• Chairman’s Choice: $15
